We bought a camper!

Part of glamping for us is owning a camper.  We bought used and partially remodeled. We put our own touch on the home - added a backsplash, repainted walls and bought some fun accessories.
Hours were spent scouring through Facebook marketplace and Craigslist to find the perfect camper... well, perfect for us.  There are so many choices out there.  There are some good and there are some bad.  One of the first campers we went to look at was one of the bad.  The pictures online were nice - it was clean, well built, had options we were looking for - so we decided to go take a look.  This camper was a NIGHTMARE!  Upon first glance in the homeowner's driveway, we thought - OK, it needs a good scrubbing and the awning replaced.  So we decided to look inside.  It was like an episode of hoarders.  Ugh!  Stuff and trash everywhere.  An awful smell.  The refrigerator literally had something growing inside (and the camper wasn't plugged up to electricity). The bathroom was gross gross gross.  But, beyond all the ickyness of the camper was what lied beneath.  The windows were rotting out and the camper was literally falling apart.  We thanked them for their time and politely declined.
So back to the drawing board of scouring the internet for a camper. And I was determined!
That's when I came across this beauty!!!  The pictures were fantastic and the owners had posted a video when they remolded the camper.  So once again, we decided to go take a look.  Falling in love at first sight was not something I expected.  I knew I liked the pictures and the video.  But I didn't know how much I was really going to love this camper.  It was an older model so it didn't have the shiny new look you see on the RV lots.  And yes, we looked at those too. The inside was exactly like the photos.  Billy gave it a once around and we decided on the spot to buy it.  Of course we negotiated the price a little to something comfortable for both us and the sellers.
We then took it home and began our own remodeling and clean up.  We scrubbed EVERYTHING in the camper, right down to the walls.  The bedroom and bathroom were a mint green color, pretty enough, but not a color I prefer.  So those walls were painted gray to match the kitchen walls.  We talked about repainting the red accent walls in the kitchen and bunk room, but ultimately decided we really liked that aspect and kept it.  We added a stick on tile backsplash to the kitchen and bathroom area - really making the gray pop.  And then I began accessorizing.  I had painted an anchor at a wine and design girls night that I thought would work perfectly with the navy, white and red features of the camper.  And then I began accessorizing everything else around the anchor.  Kitchen towels and hot pads in red/white/blue anchor. The bathroom we decided to keep neutral.  It already had a charcoal gray shower curtain that matches the lower cabinets in the kitchen, and we painted the walls light gray so we went with light gray towels and matching bathmat.
The sheets purchased are a gray and white pattern and are the same for all 3 beds (queen and two twin bunks).  That made it easier to have those just for the camper.  I usually wash and dry everything before we leave and leave them in the camper so I don't have to tote them back and forth.
The next thing on the list was to spruce up some of the items in the camper that needed some work.  As you can see in the photos, the dinette table had some stains on it. So, we bought some vinyl and covered the table. This is perfect because it can just be wiped off to clean.  Also, if it gets a rip in it we can replace it easily by pulling out the staples and wrapping it with new vinyl.
An outdoor rug was purchased to place down under the awning.  While this gets sandy from the campground, it's easy to clean daily by sweeping and provides a softer "floor" when sitting outside.  We have two zero gravity chairs with built in side tables for comfort when sitting outside.  I also purchased a "Happy Camper" mat for just outside the steps to minimize the dirt tracked into the camper. You can see from my other post that my boyfriend's sweet mama bought us a camper birdhouse that says "Welcome to Billy & Jen's".  Look close and you'll see the & is actually a heart.  So sweet!
There's more I'd like to do with the camper and there's more I'll tell you about our adventures in our camper - including when the A/C wouldn't work and we had to dump the tank (ew). But for now, I'll leave you with the pictures of our home away from home!
